Also in this 2020 Samsung has proposed two devices belonging to the Note series. In addition to the Note 20 Ultra 5G, the company has also placed the Note 20 on the market, in the 4G and 5G variant. Today we review the first of the two versions and try to understand how much it changes from the premium model.Samsung Galaxy Note 20
The package of the smartphone contains manuals, a 25W power supply, a USB-C / USB-C cable and a pair of good AKG headphones with rubber pads of various sizes.
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 (4G) is undoubtedly a very large smartphone and we would not have expected anything different from a Galaxy Note, were it not that last year the company reversed the trend with a more compact Note 10 than average. The company seems to have retraced its steps and instead focused on other distinctive factors between the two devices. Galaxy Note 20 is still overall manageable and not at all slippery, but it is not a product to be used easily with one hand. The smartphone has a metal frame but the back cover is made of plastic. The finish is glossy matte and is very reminiscent of that of the older brother. However, this is true to the eye, but not to the touch, where one cannot be deceived about the material used. We are not detractors of plastic regardless: it has its undoubted advantages, among all the resistance. The smartphone, however, undoubtedly loses its charm and almost everyone is looking for a “perceptive” response when spending the amount required for a smartphone like this.
The hardware of this Note 20 is similar to that of the Ultra version, but not the same. The processor is a 2.73 GHz Exynos 990 octa core. We would have preferred the Snapdragon equivalent (here are the reasons), but it is still a good CPU. Then we have the Mali G77 MP11 graphics processor and 8 GB of RAM. The internal memory is 256 GB in UFS 3.1 technology. Unfortunately, this memory, although fast, is not expandable, unlike the Note 20 Ultra. Connectivity can then be 4G or 5G depending on the variant you purchased: we have tried the first of the two. Present Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. The USB-C port is version 3.1 and supports video output via cable. You can also do wireless mirroring of the image with compatible TV / monitors and always wireless you can also take advantage of the DeX “desktop” interface. Present the NFC chip, dual SIM support (and also eSIM), as well as the ultrasonic fingerprint reader under the display. However, there is no audio jack and FM radio. The audio is stereo and is slightly above average.
What obviously does not lack support for the S Pen, as in any self-respecting Note. The pen has been renewed and now coupled with the smartphone display it has a latency of only 24ms, less than last year’s 42ms but more than the 9ms of the Ultra variant. The pen is equipped with Bluetooth connectivity and allows you to perform gestures without touching the screen: convenient for total control. The pen recharges very quickly by inserting it into its slot.
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is a good phone. However, there are many sacrifices compared to the upper-range model and among all the plastic body and the 60Hz screen weigh more than others. There would be nothing wrong if it were not for the fact that the price is disproportionate. Only good offers can make Note 20 really interesting.
